About Rae

Rae Waters has served on the Kyrene Elementary School District Governing Board since 1998, serving three terms as president. She is a past president of the Arizona School Boards Association, which represents more than 1,200 school board members and more than 1 million Arizona children, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for educational research firm WestEd.

Rae has advocated on behalf of children and education in Washington as part of the National School Boards Association Federal Relations Network for the last eight years.

She has served on the board of directors for the Arizona Alliance for Arts Education and the Arizona K-12 Center. Her professional and community involvement includes serving as a member of the Teacher Education Partnership Commission, president of the Kyrene Municipal Property Corporation, chair of Kyrene Citizens for Education, member of the Kyrene Legislative Information Network, and many other school and district committees.

In recognition of her leadership and professional development in the Arizona School Boards Association, she has received her Certificate of Orientation, Boardsmanship, Associate of Boardsmanship, Masters of Boardsmanship, First, Second, and Third Clusters, and Silver & Gold Cactus Pin Awards. She has been honored by the National School Public Relations Association with their Outstanding Communicator Award and by the Arizona School Public Relations Association with the Award of Excellence for Individual Contribution to Public Education.

Rae has lived in Ahwatukee for 27 years with Jim, her husband of 29 years, and their two children: Tommy, a student at Northern Arizona University, and Alyssa, a student at Mountain Pointe High School.
